Bukhara, Uzbekistan

By Faithieee

Bukhara, our second city in Uzbekistan. We spent two nights there. I think this is where we got really sunburnt.

The Ark

So. Of course we go sightseeing. There is a ‘town’ inside the city. It’s called the Ark. Basically the rulers lived there, and everything that they need could be found there. There was a temple, treasury, living quarters of course.. It was okay-interesting. Reading about it was kind of more interesting than being in it because there wasn’t much to see inside. Mostly just people selling souvenirs.

Tallest minaret in Bukhara. People were thrown off here to be killed.

We went to the prisons and this is called ‘the pit’. It’s a hole about 6 metres deep and at the bottom there are all kinds of creepy crawlies. So the prisoners inside just get crawled over by these bugs, bitten, and man thinking about it just gives me the heebie jeebies.

Cute kids in their school uniforms.

Those big flower hair things are sold in Kazakhstan too. When I first saw them being sold at the green bazaar, I thought they were bath lilies! Later on I saw little girls wearing them in their hair and realized they were hair accessories, not bath lilies. Hahaha. It’s like traditional dress or something, when my friend graduated from high school they had to dress up like these girls do, but instead of light blue dresses, they wore black ones. But with the white lacy aprons and everything.

At a palace.

Trying to find secret passageways.

In Bukhara, we stayed at a place that was a really old building, sigh I can’t remember when, before Soviet times? There is no shower there. I don’t think there was heating either. The bedsheets, pillows and blankets we got were definitely a lot dirtier / dustier than we wanted to think, so we just tried not to think about it.

Because there was no shower there, we had to go to a banya to bathe. There was a public part and a private section. The private section was more expensive of course, but we got that one because we could split the cost. Also because the public part was going to be a lot more dirtier and everything. Man. It felt good to have such a nice warm shower! There was even a sauna. And nice hot tea.

Sunset in Bukhara on our last night there.

Just mostly pictures again. Tired and we have Nanta practice later. See ya.
